The specialisation tracks

The third year is devoted to specialisation classes geared towards industrial applications and organised into tracks. The emphasis is on the one hand on the deepening of scientific skills on topics chosen by the student, and on the other hand on the acquisition of knowledge specific to a given profession. An optional one-week study trip allows a concrete approach to this profession.

Beyond their training as a general engineer, the student will thus acquire an engineering profile oriented towards an economic sector or a particular know-how, in which they will generally begin their career.

The third-year student chooses a specialisation track in the 3 divisions of excellence of the School: 
Transportation and energy, mathematical engineering and systems engineering.

The profiles

In addition to his or her path, the student also chooses a profile that corresponds to one of the following three types of jobs:

  • "Engineering and design"
  • "Research and innovation"
  • "Entrepreneurship - intrapreneurship"

General education

In addition to studying law, economics and management, students also benefit from the teaching of modern languages as well as training in recruitment techniques.

Graduation project

The graduation project (PFE - projet de fin d'études) forms the last semester of the engineering course. It may take place in a business (this is the most frequent case) or in a public research establishment. It truly constitutes a transition between studies and the first job.
The PFE provides the student with an opportunity to apply the lessons learned at ENSTA Paris, in particular the advanced lessons of the third year, within the framework of a beginner engineering job. It is carried out under the double supervision of a permanent teacher-researcher of ENSTA Paris playing the role of mentor, and a scientific or technical manager within the host organisation.
The graduation project is the subject of a thesis and a defence before a panel made up of professors and external examiners. This internship often presages the first job of graduates.
